Getting Ready for Spring

I find it really difficult to choose my favourite time of the year.  I love spring flowers, autumn leaves, long summer days and cold winter nights equally! Because of this, I like our home to reflect the changing seasons.  Rather than redecorate every few months (possibly my fiancé’s worst nightmare), we keep the basic palette of our home quite neutral and change the look by adding different accessories and soft furnishings.

In the winter and at Christmas time I love a cosy house filled with warming colours and plenty of thick blankets, spicy cinnamon scents and comfy cushions to snuggle up with, but as the nights start to get lighter and spring approaches, I replace these with light, airy colours and springtime scents to bring the beauty of the outdoors inside.

Colour Palette

Start with a neutral colour pallet for the walls and flooring of your home.  This acts as a blank canvas, making it easier to change your theme with different accessories throughout the year.  It’s a cheaper and easier alternative to redecorating!!

Flowers

Flowers are a quick and simple way to bring beautiful colour into your home.  They also give off amazing scents that greet you as soon as you walk through the door! Why not visit your local flower market for a huge range of beautiful spring blooms?

Carefully chosen scented candles and room sprays can help you bring fresh springtime fragrances into your home as well as creating a tranquil setting for you to relax in.  Jo Malone, The White Company and Diptyque have a huge range of beautiful scents to choose from.

Soft Furnishings

Put away the tartan and the warming winter colours and make way for fresh, soft pastels.  I love pale greens and blues in spring time mixed with soft grey tones.  When choosing fabrics, checks, stripes, ticking and gingham are all perfect for a calming, springtime feel.

A Splash of Colour

You can also add a pop of your chosen colours with other room accessories such as wall hangings and picture frames.  Choose products made of organic materials to add to the natural feel.  Mix it up with various pastel shades of your favourite colours then sit back, relax and enjoy your tranquil springtime retreat!
